Airplane injuries are regulated by different sets of rules and regulation. Airplane accidents are not limited to crash. Any injury related accident whether it is result of carrier negligence or passenger's mishap are treated under these sets of regulation.
Recent advances in technology have made airplanes much safer than initial introduction of modern airplanes. It appears unless collective number of major component fail at once, newer airplane would be able to land even with some minimal level of engine power.
Technology has its own set of complications that may cause crash. Any airplane has hundreds of computers and if one too many fail at once, pilot may think he is climbing while he is losing altitude or going over land while he is over ocean. New sensors and technology can warn the piolot but things can still go wrong. Cause of failure is the concern, and prevention of happening again is the goal.
Airplane has to be maintained to work properly. It is foreseeable that airplane needs regular maintenance. From simple parts such as tires, and structural parts such as body of airplane to most advanced parts, all have to be maintained properly. Failure to maintain the airplane is not the sole cause of major accidents.
Airplane key parts have to be built free of defect. A faulty speed sensor can cause destruction of airplane in the air. The body of airplane can hold up certain amount of force. As speed increases, more pressure is placed on the body of the plane. Once the pressure reaches and passes certain limits the airplane will tear up in parts and crash with no control.
A small crack can cause huge damages. A small crack on a windshield of vehicle is not a major problem at highway speed. However, small crack can open up a 6 ft gap on a roof of an airplane traveling in excess of 500 miles per hour. Such opening in structural of the plane at high altitude will danger human lives and requires urgent drop of altitude. A Houston based airliner may have experienced such close call, when the roof of the plane open up more than 6 ft at altitude higher than 25000 ft. This caused the oxygen masks to fall down, create vacuum in the plane and called for urgent landing. It was only due wonderful acts of the pilot and crew that no one was hurt too bad.
